DANVERS - Jane Porter Potter died in her own home at the age of 93 on February 15th, 2016. She was a lifelong resident of Danvers. She is a graduate of Holten High School the Class of 1940, graduated from Kathleen Dell Secretarial School in Brookline Class of 1942 and in 1979 she graduated with a B.A. from Salem State College. She then completed her lifelong desire and graduated with an M.Ed from Harvard University in 1981. She was widely traveled visiting countries all over the globe to widen her cultural understanding of the world and to have inspirational experiences.

She was predeceased by her husband Calvin Richard Potter in 1988, her parents Lillian Victoria Smith Porter in 1987 and Ralph Hathorne Porter in 1984, and her sister Nancy Porter Rothwell in 2001. She is survived by her 5 children: Richard H. Potter of Danvers, Jonathan T. Potter of VA, wife, Harriet A. Potter, Elizabeth C. Potter of Danvers, Meredith W. Potter of FL., David E. Potter. Her Grandchildren: Heather- May V. Potter, Jennifer M. Potter husband Paul W. Jickling, Nicholas R. Werse wife Jennifer S. Werse, Stacy E. Werse, Tiffany A. Bettencourt husband Victor A. Bettencourt, Nathaniel H. Potter, Courtney P. Marrotte husband Matthew C. Marrotte, Kaitlin V. Potter husband Ivan Perez. Her Greatgrandchildren: Cera N. Bettencourt, Mara L. Bettencourt.

Jane was very active in her beloved community of Danvers and Salem. Maple Street Church was the center of her family and social life with 87 years of attendance and service. She was the last Girl Scout in Danvers to earn the Girl Scout Eaglet Award in 1940. The Danvers Women's Association, Danvers State Hospital, Girl Scouts of Essex County, Salem Hospital Aid Association (50 years of service), North Shore Elder Services inception and the General Israel Putnam Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (50 years of service) was the focus of her service and volunteer work. She held leadership positions in many of her endeavors.

She was very proud of her early work examining titles at the Salem Registry of Deeds. Due to her typing skills and integrity, she was drafted to work at the State House in Boston on a top secret government project for nearly 2 years after WWII. Working at Sylvania for the War effort during WWII was always mentioned with great pride.

After her family was grown, she worked for Health and Education Services Elder Services Outpatient Psychiatry in Beverly following her many years of volunteering to improve the lives of the elderly to live independently.

Jane's interests were vast. She loved Opera, Symphony, Broadway musicals, the Ballet and in general the Arts. She loved to read. She held membership in the Danvers Historical Society, Peabody Essex Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the House of Seven Gables, and the Salem Athenaeum and attended the yearly Hamilton Hall Lecture Series since its inception.

Jane was committed to her family, her community and her interests from which sprung many friendships.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service which will be held in the Maple Street Congregational Church, Maple St., Danvers, Saturday, March 5th at 10 A.M. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers.
