DANVERS- Mrs. Jeannette M. (Walker) Hapgood 99, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Charles Hapgood, died October 26th, 2014 at Putnam Farm in Danvers.

Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Effie (Carter) Walker. She was raised and educated in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School. She continued her education graduating from Bates College in 1937 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She had great affection for her time spent at Bates.

Mrs. Hapgood had been employed as an Administrative Assistant in New York and in Boston and most recently at Harvard University.

A resident of the Town of Danvers since 1986, Jeannette was a member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers. Mrs. Hapgood raised her family in Reading and also lived for some time in Litchfield, Conn. She was a member of the Maple Eves at Maple St. Church and was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member and past president of the Reading College Club. She was a long time volunteer at the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers.

Jeannette is survived by her daughter, Meredith J. Hession and her husband Jim of Ipswich, her son, Robert Taylor and his wife Carol Taylor of Plymouth, her four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the McElroy Chapel of the Maple Street Congregational Church, Maple St., Danvers, Friday, Nov. 14th at 11:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Jeannette's memory to Bates College 2 Andrews Rd, Lewiston, ME 04240 or to Hospice at Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
