SALEM- Mr. Richard J. Shea 90, of Salem, formerly of Danvers, beloved husband of Irene (Buczko) Shea, died March 25th, 2015 at Salem Hospital.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Michael and Barbara (Flaherty) Shea. He was raised and educated in Cambridge and achieved his Degree in Engineering.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy Seabee during World War II. He was a deeply patriotic man and his family was very proud of his service to his country.
Mr. Shea had been employed for over 25 years with the G.T.E. Sylvania Company at its Boston Street Plant in Salem until the time of his retirement. Richard was highly respected at his profession as an engineer and was awarded three patents over the course of his time with Sylvania. This was an accomplishment he was very proud of.
A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, Richard was well known throughout the community for his willingness to help others. He touched the lives of many throughout the course of his life. He mentored aspiring youth in business development and volunteered his time as a handy man through the Danvers Senior Center assisting the elderly with projects they could not complete. He was recognized for his mentorship through the Junior Achievement Advisors for his enthusiasm and guidance of the aspiring youth in business. He found great fulfillment and satisfaction in being able to assist those in need.
Richard's greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments and he will be deeply missed by all.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Irene (Buczko) Shea of Salem, his children, Lisa Shea and her husband William Grondin of Danvers, Lynne Shea of Danvers, Elizabeth Dabrieo and her husband Edward of Sanford, ME, Nellie Ricciardi of Saugus and Richard Shea and his wife Bette of Arizona, his 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, his sisters, Margaret Flint and her husband Frank of Dracut and Barbara Bouzan of Fallbrook, CA, his brother Joseph Shea of Mansfield and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Daniel, Edward and Thomas Shea.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Tuesday March 31st at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours prior to the funeral from 9 to 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in Richard's memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
