BEVERLY- Mr. Samuel M. Pickell 91 of Beverly, beloved husband of Mary A. (Polizzotti) Pickell, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Gloucester, he was the son of the late Samuel V. and Esther (Thibedeau) Pickell. He was raised and educated in Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School in 1942. He continued his education earning his certificate in X-Ray Technology.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Pickell had been employed for over 29 years with the John Hancock Insurance Company as a Sales Representative until the time of his retirement in 1985.
Sam was a long time member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Beverly. He enjoyed taking care of his home and family and loved to listen to his favorite songs from the 1940's. Above all else he was a family man and will be deeply missed especially by his grandchildren who adored him.

In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Sam is survived by his daughters, Janet Lessard of Beverly and Lisa Fitzgerald and her husband Thomas of Danvers, his son, Jack Pickell of Georgetown, his grandchildren, Liam Fitzgerald and Samuel and Jake Pickell, his sister, Esther "Bonnie" Meek of Exeter, N.H. and several nieces and nephews. He was the beloved grandfather of the late Michael Lessard.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass which will be held in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Cabot St., Beverly, Wednesday Oct. 19th at 11 A.M. Burial is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Samuel's memory to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, C/O the Catholic Community of Gloucester & St. Ann's Church, 74 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA 01930 .
